Returning Equipment FAQ

Questions about international equipment returns to Geometrics for repair or service or from a rental.

International shipments must be accompanied with a Commercial Invoice. Failure to submit a completed and signed Commercial Invoice can result in delays at U.S. Customs. Please also include a written or typed notice that indicates the nature of the problem, and list both technical and business contacts at your organization for this order. We also must have return shipping instructions before we can send the repaired equipment back to you.

It is important that you place copies of all documentation inside the box with the instrument. A copy of the Commercial Invoice should be placed on the outside of the shipping box. Please follow the shipping instructions as described below:

For airfreight shipments: Please use San Francisco (SFO) as the destination airport.
DO NOT USE SAN JOSE AIRPORT (SJC) as the destination airport; this will delay customs clearance and may result in additional importation charges.

For courier service shipments (i.e. Fed Ex / DHL / UPS). Do not list our customs broker Coppersmith as the notify. The courier service company will clear customs for us.

For equipment being returned for repair or service:
Please issue the following statement on the Commercial invoice:
“US Goods being returned for repair under HTS 9801.00.1012”
Country of manufacture: USA

For equipment being returned after rental:
Please issue the following statement on the invoice:
“US Goods being returned after rental/lease under HTS 9801.00.1090”
Country of manufacture: USA

Additional Customs charges may be levied if the above statement is NOT on the Commercial Invoice
